The Dahua XVR5216AN-4KL-I3 is a 16-channel Penta-brid CCTV recorder designed for larger residential, commercial and business surveillance installations.
Part of Dahua’s WizSense range, this 1U XVR supports HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS cameras, as well as IP cameras. It provides 16 physical BNC inputs and can be expanded to support up to 32 IP camera channels, with compatible IP cameras up to 8MP.
With 4K recording capability, 16-channel SMD Plus, perimeter protection, face recognition and AI Coding, the XVR provides a flexible platform for installations requiring higher channel capacity and intelligent video features.
16-channel 4K CCTV recording
The XVR5216AN-4KL-I3 features 16 BNC analogue camera inputs with automatic support for HDCVI, AHD, TVI and CVBS formats.
Supported resolutions include:

The recorder supports 4K encoding at up to 15fps and 5MP encoding at up to 25fps, depending on the channel and recording configuration.

Up to 32 IP camera channels
In addition to its 16 analogue inputs, the XVR supports up to 32 IP camera channels.
It provides:

The recorder provides 16-channel SMD Plus, using secondary filtering to distinguish human and vehicle targets and help reduce unwanted alarms caused by environmental changes such as rain, lighting conditions and moving vegetation.
SMD by camera is also supported on up to 32 channels.
For larger surveillance installations, this provides a practical way to focus attention on relevant movement rather than every motion event detected by a camera.
Perimeter protection
The XVR supports AI-powered perimeter protection for applications requiring virtual boundaries.
Supported functions include:
- Tripwire
- Intrusion detection
- Up to 8 channels in General Mode
- Up to 2 channels in Advanced Mode
- Up to 10 IVS rules per channel
These features can be used to monitor defined areas and generate alerts when configured rules are triggered.
Face detection and recognition
The XVR5216AN-4KL-I3 supports face detection and face recognition on 2 channels.
Its face recognition system supports up to:
- 10 face databases
- 20,000 face images
- 6 face attributes
Face detection supports up to 12 face images per second on each supported channel.
QuickPick 2.0 AI
QuickPick 2.0 AI is available on 2 channels, providing intelligent search functionality for locating relevant people or vehicle events within recorded footage.
This can be useful when reviewing footage from larger multi-camera CCTV systems.
Dual HDD storage
One of the key differences between this model and smaller XVRs in the range is its two SATA drive bays.
Each HDD can support up to 16TB, giving the recorder a total supported capacity of up to 32TB across two drives, subject to the specified environmental limitations.
The recorder also supports Disk Group functionality.
Hard drives are not included unless specifically selected as an option.

Connectivity and interfaces
The recorder provides HDMI and VGA outputs, with HDMI supporting resolutions up to 3840 × 2160.
For networking, the XVR includes a 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 Ethernet port, supporting remote access and network camera connectivity.
Two USB ports are provided, including one USB 2.0 port and one USB 3.0 port.
The recorder also supports two-way talk, with the first channel sharing its audio input connection.
Compact 1U design
Despite supporting 16 analogue channels, up to 32 IP channels and two HDD bays, the XVR has a relatively compact 1U form factor, measuring 375 × 289.6 × 53mm.
It is designed for desktop installation and is suitable for larger CCTV systems in homes, offices, retail premises, warehouses and other commercial environments.
Important compatibility note
Some AI functions have specific operating limitations.
When IP extension mode is enabled, EPTZ, Video Quality Analytics, Scene Changing, Face Recognition, Face Detection, SMD, Perimeter Protection, QuickPick 2.0 and Privacy Protection cannot be used.
Similarly, enabling Encode Enhancement disables several AI functions. The required AI features should therefore be considered when configuring the recorder.
